Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretatry of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), widely known as General Mosquito in politics, has slammed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over the Asomdwe Park renovation.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Angel Fm, He indicated that the President disrespected the late President Evans Atta Mills’ tomb and that as a result, he owes the grieving family an unreserved apology because of his actions, which smack off a contempt for the people’s traditions and customs.

He added that the President—an Akan—should have observed the custom by notifying the late President’s family before beginning any work on his tomb.

“The president has brought shame upon the people of Akan,  so I suggest he is an elderly person who knows the tradition of the Akans and I know Okyehene will talk to him and advise him so that if he has any apology, he should render to the family of the late president that what they did was wrong,” Mr. Asiedu Nketia disclosed.

At the 10th anniversary of the late President Evans Atta Mills’ passing, President Nana Akufo-Addo said he is not to blame for the turmoil this has caused. All he really cared about was the good that was done, taking into consideration that the tomb was left unattended to since the burial of Atta Mills in 2012.

“It was not right that the Park had been allowed to deteriorate considerably over the years since his burial in 2012, and I am happy that it was under the Presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, allegedly his “fiercest critic”, that Asomdwoe Park has been elevated to a status befitting the final resting place of a President of the Republic of Ghana. I did so with that objective solely in mind, and not to exploit or take advantage of any so-called divisions in the political party to which he belonged. Those alleged divisions are not of my making, and do not, in any way, inure to my benefit.” – President Akuffo Addo commented.
